Interior design for the studio units of a guesthouse in Mauritius, an Indian Ocean island east of Madagascar, designed entirely from our studio in Bali 6,300 km away. One compact unit that works as bedroom, kitchen and bathroom at once, in a modern tropical language with a Balinese touch.

A Considered Guesthouse, Designed From Bali
The owner was planning a small guesthouse in Mauritius and wanted its rooms to feel like a considered tropical retreat rather than generic rentals. They came to a Bali studio for the look: warm, natural, and unmistakably Balinese in its materials. The whole design ran remotely, from our studio to their site in the Indian Ocean.
One Studio Unit, Every Function
Each unit is a single studio room, so the plan has to be tight. A low platform bed anchors one end, a compact kitchenette and full-height joinery line the other, and a private bathroom tucks in behind. Nothing is oversized, and every surface earns its place, so a small footprint still reads as calm rather than crowded.
Built Around an Arched Stone Headboard
The room turns on one move: a backlit arch of natural crazy-paving stone behind the bed, the Balinese touch made literal, raw island stone softly lit and framed like art. The rest stays quiet and functional, including a kitchenette that folds into a wall of warm bamboo with a stone-look worktop, a stacked-tile splashback and black tapware, so the studio feels like a retreat rather than a rental.

A Bathroom That Keeps the Palette
The bathroom carries the same language through: textured plaster walls, a terrazzo floor, a bamboo-fronted vanity and a walk-in rain shower beside a slot window framing the palms. One material story, bedroom to bathroom.
Modern Tropical, With a Balinese Touch
The scheme runs on natural stone, bamboo and rattan, travertine and terrazzo, warm linen and jute, with black fixtures for contrast. It is the studio’s Bali signature tuned for hospitality: warm and textural enough to feel special, robust and simple enough to run as a guesthouse.
