Online Interior Design for Tropical Villas & Homes, Anywhere

Building or renovating a villa abroad, but the designer who truly gets tropical living isn’t there? We design your entire interior remotely from Bali, every room, handed to your local builder to bring to life. Starts from $25/sqm, a fraction of Western fees.

Online interior design, often called e-design lets you work with a specialist studio remotely, wherever your property is. We design the full interior: layout, materials, lighting, furniture and styling, delivered as a complete pack you (or your local builder) can execute. Based in Bali and working with owners overseas, we specialize in tropical villas and island homes at a fraction of typical Western design fees, start from $25/sqm.

Quick Answer: What Is Online Interior Design?

Online interior design, also called e-design, is a remote service where a studio designs your full interior (layout, materials, lighting, furniture and 3D visuals) from your floor plans, photos and measurements, then hands you a build-ready pack your local contractor executes. It suits owners building or renovating a tropical villa or home overseas who want specialist design without flying a designer to site.

What Online Interior Design (E-Design) Is

Online interior design delivers the same considered interior as a traditional studio, without anyone needing to be in the room. You share your plans, photos and goals; we design the space and hand over everything needed to build and furnish it. It suits owners who love a studio’s tropical, island aesthetic but whose property, or budget, sits outside the reach of an in-person designer. Everything happens over email, calls and shared files, on your timeline and time zone.

Online vs Traditional Interior Design

Both approaches produce a professional interior, the real difference is how the work is delivered and who executes it on site

For the full breakdown, see our guide on e-design versus hiring a local interior designer.

Overseas villa & holiday-home owners

Building or renovating in a tropical or island setting.

Expats & investors

Who want a resort-calibre interior without flying a designer in.

Second-home owners

Who know the look they want but need a professional to resolve layout, materials and sourcing.

If your project is a local Bali build where we can visit on site, our Bali interior design service is the better fit, this page is for remote, worldwide work.

Why Overseas Owners Choose Remote Design

Three situations push property owners toward remote design. The specialist they want does not operate where the property is, which is common for island and tropical builds. They live in a different country from the property, so they cannot be on site to brief a local designer anyway. Or local options exist but do not carry the style or standard they are after. In each case distance is already part of the project; remote design simply makes it deliberate, with a process built for it rather than improvised around it.

When Online Interior Design Isn't the Right Fit

Online interior design isn’t for everyone, and saying so keeps projects honest. It’s not the right fit if you need daily on-site supervision, your project is structural or architectural (that’s an architect’s job), you don’t yet have measurements or a floor plan, or you want the designer to hire and manage your contractor directly. In those cases, a local full-service designer is the better route.

What to Prepare Before We Start

A little preparation makes the first design stage faster and sharper. Before we begin, it helps to have:

There’s a full checklist in our online interior design consultation guide.

Staying in Sync Across Time Zones

Designing remotely only works if communication is tight. We schedule calls at times that suit your time zone, and keep everything from plans, references, materials and 3D visuals, in one shared thread you can open anytime. The 3D renders become our common language: instead of describing a finish or a layout in words, you see it and sign it off.

Feedback is captured in writing so nothing gets lost between messages, and changes are consolidated into clear revision rounds rather than a scatter of one-off requests. If your local contractor has a question mid-build, we stay reachable to clarify the drawings and specification so work doesn’t stall. So a project on the other side of the world moves as smoothly as one down the road.

Interior design, not architecture

We design the interior of an existing or planned building, layout, materials, lighting, furniture and finishes. We don’t design the building shell, structure or the architectural drawings

We design; you build

We deliver the complete design and specification; you engage a local contractor to construct and fit it out. We give your builder the drawings and specs they need, and can answer their questions along the way, but we don’t manage the construction remotely.

Pricing: Bali Rates, Not Western Ones

Our online interior design starts from $25/sqm, a genuine advantage of a Bali-based studio, without the overheads baked into Western fees.

For a full breakdown of what shapes the number, see our guide to online interior design cost.

Bali Best Design (online e-design) starts from $25/sqm
US designers & studios ~$54–$269/sqm
UK designers ~£350–£600/sqm

Western figures are market averages, shown for context. Your price is confirmed after a short scoping call, no obligation. (Prices in USD.) Sources: HomeGuide and House Designer

What Affects Your Final Price

No two projects price the same. A handful of factors move your final quote up or down from the starting rate:

Cost factorWhy it affects price
Property sizeLarger spaces need more planning and documentation
Number of roomsEach needs layout, materials, lighting and furniture decisions
Custom furnitureBespoke joinery and FF&E need more specification
3D detailMore views and detail increase production time
Sourcing supportA local list vs Bali-made supply-and-ship changes scope

Western design fees vary widely by country, experience, and whether the fee covers design only, procurement, or project management, treat the comparison as context, not a fixed benchmark. Sources: HomeGuideHouse Designer

Why a Bali-Based Tropical Specialist

Designing for a tropical or island home is its own discipline, humidity, light, indoor-outdoor living, and materials that hold up in the climate. Working from Bali, we design with that in mind daily, and with direct access to a deep craft and furniture-making ecosystem for sourcing. We’ve delivered this remotely: a private guesthouse in the Seychelles was designed entirely from our Bali studio, from concept through to the specification the owner’s local team will build from.

Choosing a remote studio? Here’s what to look for in an online interior design service.

Project Snapshot: A Guesthouse Interior Designed Remotely in the Seychelles

Here is a snapshot of one project designed entirely from our Bali studio, a private guesthouse whose owner will build locally from our specification and drawings.

PropertyA private guesthouse
Spaces designedBalcony, living room + kitchen, bedroom and bathroom
Design locationEntirely remote from our Bali studio, the owner sent a measured layout, with no on-site visit
Style briefModern tropical Bali, with an African influence woven through the interior
RevisionsTwo rounds at the concept stage
ExecutionThe owner’s local team will build from our design, materials and specification

The brief had an unusual twist: blend our modern tropical Bali style with an African influence the owner wanted carried through the interior. We resolved it by working directly with him, questioning what he was after and researching references together, rather than designing on assumption. He had come to a Bali studio for a straightforward reason: he had found the island shares a climate close to the Seychelles, so a tropical-first approach translated naturally.

We don’t settle for first drafts or design by guesswork. We bring the research and the design expertise; the owner stays the decision-maker. We actively want clients to challenge the concept, stress-testing the details together and staying honest about what works, so the final result isn’t just beautiful, it is accurate.
