Everything arrives by boat from Sanur, which means every piece of furniture has to survive loading, an open-water crossing and unloading before it ever reaches the villa. Large one-piece items are the highest risk: a single slab dining table or an oversized wardrobe that would be routine to deliver on the Bali mainland becomes a real planning question here.

The practical answer is the same one we use for the Gili Islands: specify in a form that survives the crossing. That usually means components that assemble on-site rather than single oversized pieces, and it means confirming delivery timing well before a build date rather than after.

• Favour modular over monolithic. A dining table that arrives in sections and assembles on-site is far lower risk than a single slab crossing by boat.
• Confirm boat capacity before you confirm furniture dimensions. Oversized pieces need a specific crossing arranged in advance, not a standard passenger or cargo boat.
• Build in a longer lead time than a Bali project. A weather day on the crossing can push a delivery by more than a day.
• Protect pieces for a saltwater crossing, not just a truck ride. Wrapping that is adequate for a Bali delivery is often not enough for an open boat.

What Salt Air Does to a Nusa Lembongan Interior

Nusa Lembongan is small, low and surrounded by open sea on every side, which means salt-laden air reaches every part of a building, not just the rooms that face the water. The same principles that govern tropical coastal design elsewhere in Bali apply here with less margin for error: metal hardware corrodes faster, untreated timber weathers sooner, and finishes that would last for years inland need reconsidering. Marine-grade or stainless hardware, sealed and treated timber, and hinges and fittings rated for coastal exposure cost more up front and are worth it. On an island this exposed, replacing corroded hardware means arranging another boat crossing, not a trip to a local hardware store.

Designing for Rental Returns

Most villas on Nusa Lembongan exist to generate rental income, which changes the design brief before a single material is chosen. Furniture and finishes have to survive frequent guest turnover and salt exposure at the same time, and the interior has to photograph well for a listing while standing up to daily use between bookings. Durable, low-maintenance materials are not a compromise on a rental property here. They are the specification that protects the return.
